One of the great privileges of ministering in South America is knowing and collaborating with our many leaders and churches in Venezuela. The past years have been challenging in so many respects for our Venezuelan brothers and sisters. Yet, they have continuously shown integrity and courage in the midst of suffering and discouragement. I identify with Paul, bragging about the Macedonian churches: “Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity” (2 Cor. 8:2). I am humbled by the example of the Christians in Venezuela!
Some have asked me how to pray specifically for Venezuela in these days. I contacted a friend and brother, Rev. Allan Díaz, who is a pastor and district superintendent in Venezuela. He also serves as our Regional Evangelism Coordinator for South America. Although there are assuredly hundreds of different things to pray for, we came up with the following four prayer requests. This is what I personally am praying for in these days.
How to pray for Venezuela?
1. That Venezuelans are safe and able to freely express their political and religious views.
2. That God would place the right leader and leaders to govern and bring about social justice.
3. That our churches and Nazarenes would know this is their time, and keep on ministering with effectiveness and passion to their communities, just as they have for years.
4. Overall, that GOD’S WILL be done in Venezuela as it is in heaven!
Very helpful, Scott. Thank you. I’ve been wondering how this political event is effecting Venezuelans
