“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
God’s desire for us is that we live by faith daily. One of the greatest disservices we can do to ourselves is to live faithlessly. As we go through this devotion today, my prayer is that at the end you may be encouraged to start living and/or continue to live consistently by faith.
“Faith is the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). In this passage, the writer Paul demonstrates that godly faith is really “trust.” What we have seen of God’s nature and character should lead us to trust Him, and trust naturally leads to obedience. Therefore, to live by faith simply means to “live trusting God” and to “live in obedience to God.”
Have you been trusting God and living obediently the way He requires you? It’s ok if the answer is no; it’s important to be honest with yourself and with God, because He wants to change that. He wants to enable you to live a life of daily trust and obedience to Him, even in your most challenging moments and situations.
Faith is the undercurrent of everything we do as followers of Jesus. Without faith we lose all that Christ died to give us while here on earth. Living by faith is the key that unlocks the door to the fullness of God’s promises. And God wants for all his children to experience the fullness of His promises!
When Jesus told Peter to put out his nets into the deep for a catch, Peter could have allowed his past results or situation to restrict him from trusting and obeying in what Jesus said. But he didn’t. As a result, the Bible mentions that “Peter’s catch was so large, that his nets started to burst.” Because of Peter’s faith (trust & obedience), he was able to experience the fullness of God’s promises (Luke 5:4-7).
There is no doubt that God will always be faithful to his promises. 2 Timothy 2:13 states that “if we are faithless, he remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself.” Faithfulness is within God’s nature. God’s wants for us to receive the fullness of what is available to us in His promises. But there is a pre-requisite to unlocking that fullness, and that requirement is to live by faith.
As we come to the end of this devotion, I would like to leave you with 3 practical ways of how you can live a more consistent life of faith:
- Pray Daily. It is through prayer that we receive the power, strength, and courage to keep persevering.
- Read the Bible Daily. Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.
- Understand that God has already given you victory. Everything that God does is intended to make us victorious, and because we have the assurance of this, it will make living consistently in faith easier.
Repeat please this prayer with me: My Father and my God, You said that they are blessed who have not seen and yet believe. Yet while you are so close to me, I sometimes doubt you and fail to obey you unless I see and feel your works. Strengthen my faith today, so that I can be able to experience the fullness of everything that you have promised me. I trust you; I praise you and I will love you forever and ever. Amen.
