The Limitless God Gives Us a Limitless Mission

By: Rev. Hazard Félix

“Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you every day, until the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).

God is limitless, and indeed everything about him has no limits. In theological terms, the Limitless God refers to the omnipresence of God, a term that means “God is everywhere.”

What if we were to view this central biblical text of mission through “limitless” eyes? I believe it would reveal four imperatives recommended to believers by the God-Son to accomplish the missionary task:

1- Go without limits. Jesus Christ commands us to go wherever there are human beings in order to reach them. For where there is humanity, there is also the Spirit of God drawing mankind to him.

2- Make disciples without limits. Reaching people is the primary step in missionary work, but then it is necessary to transform them into living disciples in Christ’s image. These disciples will have the mission to also make disciples without limits. This is how the cycle of mission should evolve.

3- Baptize believers without limits. Baptism should not be neglected. In this act, the disciple publicly confesses his or her faith in Jesus.

4- Teach disciples without limits. Missionary work revolves around this axis. The limitless missionary must make sure that each new disciple receives all the teachings necessary for them to become like the Master, Jesus.

What a joy to discover this limitless mission! In my life, I have spent several years serving local churches and districts as pastor and trainer. I did everything with great happiness. But I’ve never been so thrilled as the day I attended the Cross-Cultural Orientation. This missionary training opened my eyes to the divine call in an incredible way. Since then, my family and I have felt immense joy in going everywhere without limits, making disciples without limits, baptizing without limits and teaching without limits.

After meditating on these words, I ask you to open your heart to God so that he can speak to you. Ask him to give you this same joy to fulfill his limitless mission. Amen!
