First Cross-Cultural Orientation Held in French Guiana

By: Timmeon Spencer

From March 21 to 24, 2024, a significant event unfolded at the Church of the Nazarene Rocade in Cayenne, French Guiana: the inaugural Cross-Cultural Orientation (CCO). Spearheaded by facilitators Rev. Scott Armstrong, Pastor Timmeon Spencer, and Min. Kimberly Rodriguez, this training marked a pivotal moment not only for the church in French Guiana but also for the broader Nazarene community across the Caribbean Field.

Through workshops, dynamics, and services, the 10 participants were immersed in a rich tapestry of cross-cultural experiences and challenges. Many testified that the event helped them to know what missions in the Church of the Nazarene entails and provided them with practical strategies for effective cross-cultural encounters.

The culmination of the weekend was marked by a memorable closing message delivered by Pastor Timmeon Spencer, the Field Missions Mobilization Coordinator. Drawing parallels between the global reach of Coca-Cola and the imperative of the Church to fulfill the Great Commission, Pastor Spencer’s message resonated deeply with both the CCO participants and the larger congregation of over 700 individuals. Highlighting Coca-Cola’s pervasive presence despite its relatively short history, Pastor Spencer issued a stirring call to action for the Church, emphasizing its timeless mandate to make Christlike disciples of all nations.

Six of the attendees expressed a sense of God’s call to missions. The facilitators are currently following up with every attendee and recommending local church involvement and future mission trips as part of the next steps that should be taken as they grow in their call.

Special recognition must be extended to Rev. Louis Maignan, the Superintendent of this new district, and his team, whose unwavering support and meticulous preparations were instrumental in bringing this event to fruition. Please pray for Rev. Maignan and the churches in French Guiana. It is clear that God is raising them up to impact their country and the world.
