“Recently I received a message from one of the people who most intercedes for my family and our missions ministry, Cathy Spangler. She had spent time in prayer and devotional reflection in the previous weeks, and shared with me what she sensed God was telling her for this coming year. As I read it, I realized two things. First, this is a message not just for her but for many of us as well. Second, I believe her notes could essentially be used as an outline for a sermon, or even a sermon series on the topic of letting go and pressing on. With that in mind, I am saving this and passing it on to you, the reader, as well. What do we need to LET GO of this year? And how is God calling us to PRESS ON to know him and serve him more?”

Philippians 3:7-14
What things were “gain” to me, I NOW count -> “LOSS” so I can KNOW JESUS MORE!
He is worth suffering for.
He is worth more than all I have laid down.
It’s all FOR Him, TO Him and ABOUT Him!
Not that I have already attained “Perfection”….but this is (#13) ONE THING I do…
I LET GO of what is behind!
Forget it! …the achievements, the mistakes, the losses, the gains, the dreams, the praises, the rejections….
And PRESS ON!
reach forward, straining to what is ahead….
->the prize (heavenly prize)
->the calling (the purpose)
->the goal IN JESUS CHRIST!
Isaiah 43:16-19
LET GO OF FORMER THINGS! God says, “I’m not IN those things anymore! I’m doing a NEW thing! Perceive it!!”
Thus says the LORD, Who makes a “way” ….a “path” ….an “opening” through mighty waters….
#18 Do NOT REMEMBER FORMER things (forget all that!).
BEHOLD I will do a NEW THING! ->NOW<- it will spring forth. Shall you not KNOW it?
This pathway I will MAKE! This road goes through wilderness….dry wastelands.
#20 ->I will make rivers in the desert so MY CHOSEN PEOPLE can be refreshed!
(the “way” is a river!!) (Liquid Light?)
God speaks of making new roads….how many roads in and around Pittsburg have been made”new”!!
God speaks of making a NEW path for us to journey on….
Hebrews 12:2
Since we are SURROUNDED by a cloud of “faith-people” witnessing this day and time
…..LAY ASIDE every weight ->and sin which easily ensnares us….
Let us RUN the race (WITH ENDURANCE) set before us! (He will set it before us!)
…eyes looking forward ->focused on JESUS who authors and perfects our faith!
THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH!! (Romans 1:17/Galatians 3:11/Hebrews 10:38)
Who for the JOY set before Him (in the garden), endured the cross…
JOY and ENDURANCE are connected! …the strength to endure!
Hebrews 12:3
Consider HIM….lest you become weary!….or discouraged…its FOR BREAKTHROUGH!!
Hebrews 12:5-11
Divine Discipline!
Don’t quit (going forward…running the race)… Don’t give up! It’s the discipline of a loving Father, preparing you! There will be a peaceful harvest at the end of this training!
(as athletes discipline and train the bodies for WINNING the race….1Corinthians 9:25/2 Timothy 2:5)
Hebrews 12:12-13
THEREFORE!!!!!!
Strengthen the hands that hang down!
-lift them with a “sacrifice of praise”!
-go to the garden of Gethsemane…Your will, not mine!
-wrestle with God like Jacob did!
Make STRAIGHT PATHS for your feet
-find the NEW pathway that God has made for you…the path for your healing of what is disjointed so you can RUN effectively! What is out of joint???
How can you run without being wholly “jointed together”…prepared, trained and NOT looking back or distracted by “other things”.
Remember Lots wife!
-looking back while going forward is certain disaster! God will not allow that. He may even “freeze you in place”…heart attack….cancer….loss/lack. It’s not punishment, …its discipline…its preparation!
SO,
LET GO! PRESS ON! FOCUS! RUN without all your “stuff” that you need to leave at the cross! (Racehorses have “blinders” to keep their focus on the finish line and the guidance and encouragement of the rider…their master!). RUN for the GOAL of your HIGH CALLING….the PRIZE…your PURPOSE!!
