Virtual Cross-Cultural Orientation Held in the Caribbean Field

By: Min. Timmeon Spencer

Every year hundreds of people are trained in missions through Cross-Cultural Orientation (CCO) or EXPLORE events in the Church of the Nazarene. This year was no different for the Caribbean Field as we held our virtual CCO over the weekend of April 8-10, 2022. The three days were filled with workshops, dynamics, in-depth group conversations, and learning dedicated completely to cross-cultural missions.

The 25 participants ranged from Pastors to NYI, NMI, and NDI leaders, coming from 9 Caribbean territories: Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Vincent, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Despite some internet and technical challenges that occurred in the case of some participants, God manifested himself and moved throughout the workshops and activities. It was such a blessing to see that the participants were very attentive to and engaged in everything that was said and done during the weekend. Some participants immediately sensed that God was calling them to missions, while others testified to being able to learn and better process their call in the future. Another major highlight from our time together was the final closing session and celebration service, where a powerful missional message challenging the participants to “Go” was delivered. At the end, many participants simply responded, “Yes, I am ready to be sent!”

In conclusion, we can say that our time together in the CCO was impactful. God touched lives, He ministered to hearts, and He confirmed and clarified many calls that the participants had coming into the weekend. In the coming days, we will interview these participants and future candidates as part of our follow-up process. Each participant will then be connected to a mentor with whom he/she will be furthered developed. To also aid in the development process of these candidates, our hope is to have them participate in the upcoming Called to Serve Mission Trip to St. Lucia this summer.

God wants to raise up more missionaries in the Caribbean Field! And as a Global Missions arm, we are excited to partner with him in Discovering, Developing and Deploying these missionaries across our Field and Region.

To God be the glory, great things He has done.
