In August of 2021, the Caribbean Global Missions Team launched Mission Without Limits across the Districts of the Caribbean Field.
During its launch, the District Superintendent of the Guyana: Demerara-Essequibo District, Rev. Dr. Alphonso Porter, identified the Yarrowkabra Community as one of the target sites for Guyana. The church there at the time was in desperate need of revival. Its building’s doors were closed, its ministries were dysfunctional and for 14 months it was dormant without anything happening.
A group of five local missionaries led by Min. Timmeon Spencer (Global Missions Coordinator Caribbean Field), took up the challenge and volunteered their service for five days in the area, and that week God worked miracles. As a result of the five days of missions, the once-dormant church reopened on August 29th, 2021. To ensure that the momentum didn’t die, however, Min. Timmeon volunteered to remain there for four months to serve the people and reconnect the church with the community.
As we fast-forward to three months later (seven months since the original church reopening), God has gone above and beyond. Here are a few notable things that have transpired since:
-𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 (𝟳) 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 came to be born again and baptized into the Faith in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
– The church membership which started at five in its reopening is now 𝟮𝟱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀.
-From 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, March 𝟰 through 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 6, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮, the District Evangelism Committee held a Weekend Evangelism Focus in the Community. There they held 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 worked on 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿ing 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗵el𝗱 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 c𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. Coming out of that weekend, s𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 (𝟳) 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 gave their lives to Jesus Christ and a few indicated their immediate interest in being baptized.
-Last but not least, 𝗮 p𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽! On Sunday, March 6th, 2022, the District Superintendent officially appointed 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗗𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗴 to serve as the new pastors of the Yarrowkabra Church of the Nazarene.
To God be the Glory great things he has done!
Please remember to pray for the Yarrowkabra Church and for their new pastor as he leads the people of the community. May our omnipotent God continue to build His Church upon the Rock at Yarrowkabra and may the gates of hell never prevail.
