Witnesses of Jesus Christ

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Did you know that God prepares us to share the good news with those who don’t know him, even when we are unaware of it?

A wonderful story in Acts 8 tells us not only how God prepares us but also how God prepares the hearts of the people he sends us to.

The Ethiopian official had been reading the scriptures without understanding them.  But God had already made an appointment with Philip, a disciple who was fleeing persecution and fulfilling the Great Commission. God summoned them both on the same road and, in the chariot, he gave Philip the opportunity to testify that it was Jesus whom the prophet spoke of. The disciple then explained further the work Jesus had done out of his love for humanity. When they came upon some water, the Ethiopian asked, “What prevents me from being baptized?”

“Just believe,” Philip told him. And he responded, “I believe.”

That man believed in Jesus and continued on his way with joy just like Philip, who was carried away and would not see him again.

In this passage we see Acts 1:8 come to life. Jesus had told us that we would receive power and be his witnesses from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.

How many people do you meet daily “on the road” at work, at school, or at university? How many around you have a great need for Christ? Could it be that God has already prepared their hearts and yours for a salvation appointment?

Do you know how many people have lost a loved one to the COVID-19 pandemic? How many have lost their job or someone special? These people search for answers and for someone to offer hope, but more than that, someone who will listen to the pain that they carry inside.

Take a break; look around you. Give a gift to a person you do not know. Be the witness that the book of Acts speaks of! You will experience the ineffable joy of arriving right on time to the divine appointment with that person who God is wanting to save.

Tell them what God has done in your life. Invite them to walk with Jesus and let him transform their heart.

Are you willing to be a witness for Christ?
